Just like a driver’s license, a Green Card also expires. A Legal Permanent
Resident must renew their card when it expires. Form I-90 can also be
used to replace your card if it is lost or stolen. If you are a Conditional
Resident, and have lost your card, or there is an error on it, you can also
use form I-90. However, if you want to Remove Conditions, this is not for
you.
All US permanent residents 18 years or older must have a valid Green
Card on their person as a form of identification at all times. Failure to
comply with this law constitutes a misdemeanor. If convicted, you may face
30 days in jail and a $100 fine.
